I don’t share much about my job on social media but I do work full-time and blog in my free time. I work from home and I truly love it. When I was going into an office, I didn’t like it at all. Between the uncomfortable clothes, extra cold OR extra hot cubicles, and constant disruptions, I felt like my productivity took a huge hit. I think I’m much more productive overall while working at home. Being in my own space, managing my own time/schedule, and in comfortable clothes. I’m excited to share my best tips on how to be productive working from home. If you have any great work from home hacks or if this post helps you become more productive, please comment below & tell me!!
Tip #1: Set up a dedicated “work space”
It doesn’t have to be an office or a whole room, just a desk in a corner of any room will do! We have 3 bedrooms and one of them is Tristan’s office. It’s perfect because he is able to go in, close the door, and work without interruptions. I have a desk in one corner of our master bedroom and that’s my “office.” Once I’m done for the day, I close my computer, put away my work stuff, and don’t sit back down until the next day. If you’re working with a smaller space, get a folding or standing desk. Pack everything up at the end of the day and put it away. This helps so much with work/life balance!
Tip #2: Set a routine & STICK TO IT!
Set a schedule and try not to deviate. Specify times for everything including when to wake up, work out, walk and feed your pets, and eat each meal. I wake up every morning around 7am, write in my journal, make the bed, wash my face, make coffee, walk and feed the dogs, go on a 30 minute walk, and start working at 9am. I eat breakfast at 11-11:30, lunch between 2:30 and 3, and dinner around 6:30-7. When I schedule calls for work, I leave these timeslots open unless there’s something urgent. I like to workout mid-day so I designate 1-2 for my Peloton ride and/or BBG workout. If I wake up late or my routine gets disrupted, my entire day is thrown off. I’m always the most productive and feel accomplished at the end of the day when I stick to my schedule.
Tip #3: Get dressed
I love to stay in my PJs all day but I find that I’m much more productive and confident when I dress in regular clothes. I definitely don’t dress up but I do put on workout clothes first thing in the morning. I’m comfortable in biker shorts but not as comfortable as I would be in sweatpants or a nightgown. When I feel like I look somewhat presentable, my productivity is higher. I feel SO lazy and purposeless when I leave on the clothes I slept in. On days when I have a video call, event, or a photoshoot, I do my hair and makeup first thing in the morning. This sets my entire day up for success, keeps me on schedule, and increases my confidence.
Tip #4: Stand up every hour & get some fresh air!
The Apple Watch is great for reminding you when you need to stand each hour and making you feel lazy when you don’t, haha! If you don’t have an Apple Watch, set a reminder or alarm to go off every hour, reminding you to take a quick break. It’s so important to stretch your legs, take your eyes off of the screen, and step outside for fresh air frequently throughout the day. Even if I sit on our balcony for 2 minutes then get back to work, I feel like I’ve hit reset on my focus.
