I just entered my third trimester (crazy!) and I’m excited to share a quick second trimester update. In case you missed it, you can check out my first trimester blog post here.
Q: How are you feeling?
I’m finally feeling better than I have. I was still experiencing morning sickness up until a few weeks ago. Luckily the nausea went away at the beginning of my second trimester and I gained a lot of my energy back. But the worst thing I have experienced was a burning/stinging sensation across my upper belly, I think from the stretching skin. It was constant for a month or two. I tried cortisone, cooling gel, aloe, lotions, oils, etc. and nothing gave me relief. It’s finally going away which is a huge relief. The other thing has been back pain – sciatic and mid-back pain. I’ve been going to physical therapy for it and it’s improved A LOT. Now that I’m in my third trimester, I’ve been exhausted again so I’m trying to rest as much as possible.
Q: Do you have a name picked out?
Yes, we have decided on his name. I won’t share until he’s born but here’s a hint: it starts with an M 🙂
Q: When did you start to feel him kick?
I started feeling him move a little around week 23 but didn’t truly feel him kicking until week 25 and it’s been constant every since. He’s extremely active so I feel him moving/kicking most of the day.
Q: What cravings have you had?
The only things I crave are cold fruit, mainly pineapple and watermelon, and chocolate. I’ve always loved dark chocolates, chocolate chip cookies, and ice cream, so that’s not really a new craving for me. I didn’t crave chocolate at all during my first trimester but the craving came back strong during my second.
Q: Favorite books/podcasts/classes?
I’ve really enjoyed listening to podcasts rather than reading books. I listen to The Birth Hour, Happy as a Mother, and Pregnancy Podcast. I read Cribsheet this trimester.
So far, I’ve taken a Breastfeeding 101 class, as well as a Low Intervention Birth Class. We are signed up for Labor Basics, Baby Basics, and Lamaze classes. I’ve also purchased the Expecting 101 class through New Parents Academy.
Q: What are your plans for the nursery?
I’m so excited for the house to finally be done so I can actually set up the nursery. The theme is animals and travel. It’s super colorful – I wanted it to be bright and fun, not monotone. The dresser, rocker, and ottoman are all navy and the crib is dark wood. One wall will have the colorful map wallpaper and the rest will stay white. I’m doing a fun gallery wall above the dresser. His neon name sign and these colorful shelves from Pottery Barn Kids with be above the rocker. The shelves will be filled with toys and books in matching colors. I linked all of the gallery wall art, shelves, toys, and books below.
Q: Why did you decide to build a house?
We decided to build because we are already running out of space in the condo. As much as we love it, it’s just not big enough. We have 3 bedrooms now – the master, Tristan’s office, and one spare. The spare WAS the guest room but we had to sell the guest bed to make room for all of the nursery/baby stuff. With all of our family being out of state, we need a guest room badly. The Peloton is also in the spare room and we have a treadmill in our living room so we really need space for a gym as well. The timing isn’t great with the house being done around the same time as baby coming, but we will make it work! We’re just very excited and grateful for both.
Q: What have you bought for the baby so far?
I’ve bought everything for the nursery – furniture from Pottery Barn Kids and Crate & Barrel Kids, decor from Pottery Barn Kids and Etsy, wallpaper from Hovia, crib mobile, sheets, and storage bins from Pehr, and a neon name sign from Sketch and Etch.
I’ve also bought a lot of clothes, shoes, and hats, mostly from Gap, Carter’s, Nike, Zara, H&M, and Magnetic Me.
